About The Band
Our Mission
The Wilkerson Band is a duo that delivers captivating live music performances featuring classic folk, rock, ballad, zydeco, and Tex-Mex music in a unique and innovative style. Beverly Wilkerson sings and plays the baritone ukulele, while her husband Ron Wilkerson complements her with vocals and the musette accordion, creating a warm acoustic blend. To enrich their sound, backing tracks composed by Ron include bass, drums, and other instrumentation, played through the PA giving the duo the feel of a full band. The Wilkerson Band can easily perform at small gigs with a busker setup or fill larger venues with the addition of a full PA system.
The songs played by The Wilkersons are some of the most memorable classics from the baby boom generation, including hits from The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Roy Orbison, Texas Tornados, Peter Paul & Mary, Hank Williams, Eric Clapton, Harry Belafonte, and many more. Audiences are invited to sing along and dance to their enchanting performance.
About The INSTRUMENTS
Why The Accordion?
After playing keyboards in many bands for many years, Ron has chosen the accordion as his main instrument in The Wilkerson Band. “Listening to how the accordion has been used in Zydeco and Tex Mex by players like Flaco Jimenez and Clifton Chenier I realized that the accordion is not just a valid folk instrument, but one that it adds a unique flavor when mixed with string instruments like the baritone ukelele. The accordion can function as a piano, organ or violin section and can even take the role of lead guitar. The musette accordions that I play have a richness of sound that is sonically similar to a 12-string guitar. Listen to our tracks and you’ll see what I mean.”
